Project Description
Case Study – SPI Lasers
Last March we attended Marketing Week Live at London Olympia where we met numerous marketing professionals who shared their exhibiting plans for the upcoming year with us. One of these companies was SPI Lasers, the leading manufacturer of fibre lasers. SPI were exhibiting at Laser World of Photonics in Munich, Germany the following June and were in the market for a new stand for their 108-square meter space.
What SPI Lasers wanted to achieve.
After a briefing meeting at SPI’s head office in Southampton the initial design concepts started to come from our design team. These striking red and black stand designs incorporated all the key objectives of the brief, including a kitchen, bar area, board room, and two semi-formal discussion areas in addition to ample product display areas.
From there the designs were presented to SPI at their head office in a presentation meeting. Design alterations were done to ensure the client that we were committed to incorporating their objectives and messages into the stand. Once the initial designs had been agreed upon the specifics and fine details of the stand could begin to be designed into the stand. It was during this stand when a complete redesign was necessary due to a change in stand space from an open three-sided space to an island stand with four sides open.
Revised specifications were made over the months leading up to the Spring before the show when an operations meeting took place. In this meeting, normal details such as paint colours and finishes, final furniture & AV requirements and electrics requirements were discussed as well as special requirements for SPI. One special requirement which was vital to the stand was the weight of the lasers which were on display. The stand needed to be able to take possible weight 50 kilos, to ensure there would be no problems during the show we reinforced the floor. In addition to adding extra support to the floor, we also made sure all the plinths were strengthened to ensure that all lasers would be safe.
The stand was manufactured here in the UK, so a few days prior to the build-up of the show our build team started the journey over to Munich. Our build team always have at least one member of the team who is fluent in German, allowing for a smoother build on site.
The first three days of build were labour focused, with the centre structure of the stand and the fascia around the outside put up first. The last day of build focused on getting the client’s exhibits into place, final decorating fixes, installing AV and furniture and ensuring that the client was happy with the stand.
The final product was a stunning black and red stand which stood out amongst a sea of stands on the show floor. All together Laser World of Photonics was a great success for everybody involved.
